Early
spin while battling for lead takes away possible chance at win
for Mason Moore in Placerville
By Gary Thomas
Placerville, CA – April 27, 2009…Continuing to make strides
in the Friends & Family Racing sprinter Princeton's Mason
Moore put himself in position to pick up his first career
Placerville Speedway win Saturday night, until things got a
little too close while battling for the lead early in the
feature, which ultimately resulted in the youngster spinning out
and being forced to the rear of the field.Going into the evening
Moore ranked second in the Placerville Speedway weekly 360
points and looked to close in on Andy Forsberg's slim five digit
advantage at the top of the standings. The night of racing was
also the final tune-up prior to this coming Saturday's running
of the annual Tribute to Al Hinds. The 18 year-old driver went
into the night fresh off his first fast time effort of the
season last week and he continued his torrid qualifying pace
aboard the F&F Racing, Red Line Oil, Merit Logistics No. x1
as he cut a blistering lap of 10.083, good enough for his second
straight quick time award at the high-banked quarter-mile. The
qualifying time was also just a tad off Andy Gregg's all-time
360 track record of 10.023 set last year.Moore then finished
sixth in the opening heat race, forcing him to run the 12-lap
semi in which he went on to win and transfer into the main
event. With the number zero pill being drawn for the inversion
however, Moore was able to line-up in the second row for the 25
lap contest. At the waving of the green flag
"Primetime" would carve his way into second, getting
around Kyle Hirst on the opening lap and he then set his sights
on leader Cameron Mendes.Moore quickly closed in on Mendes and
on lap three made a bid for the top spot entering turn three,
but the leader came down slightly and caused Moore to check up,
unfortunately resulting in him looping to a stop and forcing the
Levin's Auto Supply, Daylight West, Sierra Single Ply No.x1 to
restart from the rear of the field. The youngster would then go
on to bring home a 12th place finish at the end of the 25 lap
contest. It was a tough way to the end the night after fighting
for the lead early on, but on the bright side of things Moore
and the F&F Racing team have seemed to find the speed needed
for this Saturday's huge $3,000 to win Family Chevrolet Tribute
to Al Hinds. The California Sprint Car Civil War Series
sanctioned event has become one of the biggest single night
shows in west coast 360 sprint car racing and a large field of
talented racers are expected to be on hand.Moore goes into the
night sitting eighth in the Civil War Series point standings
following a seventh place finish during the lone event held so
far this season in Petaluma on April 11. The 18 year-old also
sits third in the Placerville Speedway standings as the weekly
action takes a weekend off, before resuming on Saturday night
May 9. The Friends & Family Racing team also go into the
Tribute to Al Hinds as the defending winners of the event, after
scoring victory with driver David Robinson Jr. last year. This
past Friday night also saw Moore get back behind the wheel of
the family owned Rolling Hills Casino, Moore Insurance Services,
NOS Energy Drink No. 22 as the Feather Falls Casino point season
was back in action following a two week hiatus. After bringing
home a fourth place finish in his heat race
"Primetime" started 10th in the feature and raced to
an eighth place finish after 25 laps of competition.Moore ranks
sixth in the Silver Dollar Speedway standings, just 14 out of
the lead heading into this Friday night, which is sponsored by
Withrow's Motorsports and JP's Paint & Body Works. The
Princeton driver will attempt to put the Mason Moore Racing No.
22 machine near the front of the field as he looks for his first
victory of the 410 season at the Chico bullring.
