Moore sets quick time & scores best finish of season at 2nd
Placerville Speedway point race
By Gary Thomas
Placerville, CA – April 20, 2009…Competing in the second Red
Hawk Casino point race of the Placerville Speedway season,
Princeton's "Primetime" Mason Moore put together his
best night of the young year by scoring a fast time effort and
racing to a third place finish in the main event. The result for
the 18 year-old was the best finish he has had at the red-clay
bullring since running second during a California Sprint Car
Civil War Series event in August of 2007. "When I drew the
eight pill for the inversion I wasn't sure what to expect, but
the guys had the car good in the main event and to come out of
here with a third place finish is really nice," Moore
said.So far in 2009 Moore has had immense success in qualifying
while driving the Friends & Family Racing No. x1 sprint car
and it continued this past Saturday night in Placerville with
his fastest lap of 10.406 pacing the 27 car field to begin the
evening. He then charged from sixth to second in the opening
heat race to transfer the Levin's Auto Supply, Roseville
Precision, Sierra Single Ply machine into the main event. After
drawing the number eight pill for the inversion Moore lined-up
from the outside of the fourth row in the main event. The
youngster moved his way forward quickly to get up into the
fourth position and stalk second running Andy Gregg and third
running Cameron Mendes. The always racy quarter-mile clay oval
was in great shape and a long green flag run was seen making for
some hectic action in lapped traffic. As the laps ticked down
Moore would make the pass of Mendes and drive off to tally a
third place finish after 25 laps of competition. It marked his
best result since joining the F&F Racing team last September
and helped push him up in the weekly point standings at the
track. This coming Friday and Saturday will find Moore heading
into a double-header weekend of racing beginning with the
re-scheduled Bill Brownell Memorial at the Silver Dollar
Speedway. "Primetime" is coming off a 10th place
finish during the lone Feather Falls Casino point race held at
the track earlier this month.
The 410 sprint cars have also had an extended period of time off
at the Chico bullring following a rainout on April 10 and an off
week last Friday. Moore goes into this Friday night as the
defending champion of the Brownell Memorial and will look to put
the Rolling Hills Casino, Moore Insurance Services, Platinum
Powder Coating No. 22 into victory lane for the second year in a
row. Then on Saturday the 18 year-old will return to the seat of
the F&F Racing No. x1 for the third 360 point race of the
Red Hawk Casino season at the Placerville Speedway. Moore goes
into the night sitting second in the point standings, just five
digits behind former track champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn. The
event this Saturday will also be the final tune-up at the track
prior to the May 2 running of the annual Tribute to Al Hinds,
which has grown into one of the top 360 sprint car events on the
west coast.
