Mason
Moore ready for Chico & Placerville point openers following
Silver Cup
By Gary
Thomas
Chico,
CA – March 31, 2009…Competing at the 28th annual Silver Cup
Race of Champions this past weekend Princeton, CA's Mason Moore
had a likely top 10 finish
taken away by a flat tire late in the going during the final
night of the double-header program.The two-night 360 sprint car
event at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico saw Moore in action
aboard the F&F Racing No. X1 machine for the second time
this season, as the previous weekend's scheduled Civil War
opener was cancelled due to rain.A strong 37 car field was on
hand for opening night of the 28th annual Silver Cup and Moore
began the evening on a good note by qualifying fourth fastest,
but didn't get quite the start he wanted in his heat race and
ended the 10 lap contest one spot shy of a transfer, putting him
into the semi-main.
At the waving of the green in the last chance race the 18
year-old jumped into the lead and quickly found the high side to
his liking. He would hang onto the top spot for a couple of laps
before a fast moving Herman Klein and Brad Furr were both able
to get by, relegating the X1 sprinter to third in the running
order. Moore would cross the line in third to transfer into the
main event where he would eventually finish in 15th after
starting from the last row in the short 20 lap contest.Saturday
featured very different racing conditions with a much drier
surface due to the strong winds that were present in the Chico
area. Moore got a late draw in qualifying and with the drying
track his best lap 13.000 put him 23rd quick. It was good enough
for a front row starting spot in his heat race and the driver
known as "Primetime" would claim a second place finish
to transfer him directly into the evening's main event.
By feature time the speedway had become visibly slick and
"rubber-down" making racing conditions very difficult
and creating an event that saw tire wear become extremely
crucial in the final outcome. Moore lined-up from the very last
row in the main event for the second night in a row and was able
to make his way up to the top 10, until like many others lost a
right rear tire leaving him with a 15th place finish in the
final rundown.
Silver Dollar
Speedway 410 season opener this Friday & Placerville
Speedway 360 opener Saturday-
Next up for "Primetime" Mason Moore will be this
coming Friday's opening Feather Falls Casino 410 Point Race at
the Silver Dollar Speedway. The 18 year-old driver will take to
the track in the Rolling Hills Casino, Moore Insurance Services,
Withrow's Motorsports No. 22 hoping to kick off his third season
of weekly competition at the track with a strong
performance.Last season saw Moore finish third in the final
Silver Dollar Speedway point standings, behind only veterans
Andy Forsberg and Sean Becker, who have both won track titles in
the past. The '07 Silver Dollar Speedway Rookie of the Year also
picked up a pair of wins last season during weekly action,
including the inaugural Bill Brownell Memorial and also tallied
12 top-ten finishes in 16 Friday night starts. On Saturday night
Moore will then jump back behind the wheel of the Friends &
Family Racing No. X1 sprinter to kick off the Placerville
Speedway 360 point season at the high-banked red-clay bullring.
Last September the youngster drove the Steve Tuccelli/Alan
Bradway owned machine to a fifth place finish in the main event
at Placerville, during what was the California Sprint Car Civil
War Series season finale. On Friday night at Silver Dollar
Speedway the front gate will open at 6pm with adult tickets
costing $11. Saturday at the Placerville Speedway will see the
front gate open at 5 with adult tickets being $12. More info on
